Getting started

The first time you open Synchronicity, it takes you straight to a new entry. Write down what happened, tag it by type, and save. After that, it opens to your journal, where the button at the bottom right starts a new entry. No account required, no setup.

Back up your journal

Open Settings, then Your data, then Back Up. Choose a passphrase if you want the backup encrypted, or skip it. Save the file somewhere you trust, such as Files, or send it to another device with AirDrop.

A backup without a passphrase is not encrypted, so keep the file somewhere private. If you set a passphrase, you will need it to restore. A lost passphrase cannot be recovered. We never see it and we cannot reset it.

Restore from a backup

Open Settings, then Your data, then Restore, and choose your backup file. Enter the passphrase if it has one.

Restore replaces everything currently in your journal with what is in the backup. If you have moments you want to keep, back up first.

Export your journal

Open Settings, then Your data, then Export. Choose PDF or Markdown. Your moments are listed newest first, in a form you can read, print, or keep.

My entries disappeared

Entries are stored on your device only. If you delete and reinstall the app, your journal will not be recoverable unless you made a backup first. See Back up your journal above. This is by design. Your data stays with you and only you.

Privacy

All entries are stored locally on your device. Nothing is transmitted to any server. No account is required. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
